Camcorder Complications

My mother in law bought this really annoyingly complicated camcorder. At our last family reunion she was still fumbling around with buttons and switches and reading her manual trying to figure out how to get a shot.
I grabbed my camera bag from the car, handed my son our JVC GZ-MG365 Everio camcorder and he recorded the whole day with ease. Turn it on, check the easy to use settings, point and shoot. It doesn’t get much easier than that.
I don’t understand why some cameras are made so complicated and expensive. Our camera had the same features but was user friendly and didn’t cost a small fortune.
