The Effectiveness of Fleas

July 1st, 2008 by admin

Fleas only live a short amount of time, but they’re still capable of much damage to their hosts. Cat fleas are some of the most widespread fleas on the planet. They can infest not only cats, but dogs, opossums and even humans. As soon as the eggs hatch into larvae, the fecal droppings of the adults, which contain the host’s blood, provide sustenance. The larvae then go through three stages of metamorphosis until spinning a cocoon to enter the pupae stage. As soon as they sense that the conditions upon the host are ideal, they hatch, and within seconds jump to the next host to begin feeding. Although not fatal, they can induce anemia in some hosts.
