How difficult is this?

In the past I have always saved up my money until I had enough to get whatever I wanted to buy. Now, however, I need to make a big purchase quickly and I will need to apply for a loan. How difficult is this? Is it difficult to get a loan? I have a credit history since I have been using a credit card and paying it off each month, but I have never had a loan before. Where can I find out more about this process? What information will they need from me in order to decide whether or not to give me a loan?
