Type 2 Diabetes On The Increase In The UK

According to figures just released the UK is seeing a surge in the number of type 2 diabetes sufferers. Between 1997 and 2003 there was an increase of 74% in the number of cases diagnosed. By 2005 4% of the UK population were classified as diabetic – approximately twice as many as a decade earlier.
Type 2 diabetes is associated with obesity and excess weight so these figures are really quite worrying. It just emphasises the need for healthy eating and regular exercise – as if this needed any further emphasis that is. It really is an example of how small changes in your lifestyle can impact upon your quality of life.
